Pruning
After over a decade in the tree care industry, we've realized it often misleads customers into thinking that excessive pruning enhances a tree's value. While clients may favor visible changes, every branch is vital to a tree's health, similar to an organ. At Homestead Ecoworks, we ensure each pruning cut benefits the tree long-term, prioritizing its well-being over appearance.
Training Pruning
Training pruning occurs in the juvenile through adolescent stages of a tree’s lifespan and is probably the most important pruning that a tree can receive in its lifetime. During this stage in the tree's life we can easily and safely make corrections to the tree’s form by making reduction cuts to establish strong central leaders, remove crossing branches that will cause structural problems in the future, easily inspect and potentially remove branches with signs of disease. Training pruning is low cost and has a big impact. Waiting to make these corrections to a tree’s canopy until adulthood is both costly and oftentimes no longer feasible due to the size of wounds that would be caused by the necessary pruning cuts.
Clearance Pruning
Rather than take whole branches that result in large wounds at the trunk we focus on making a series of strategic reduction cuts on the branches, resulting in smaller diameter cuts that will heal more easily and limit stress to the tree. A strategic and well executed clearance pruning will look much more aesthetically pleasing and keep more of the tree’s large branches intact allowing photosynthesis and other natural processes to continue with minimal interference.
Deadwood and Hazard Pruning
Pruning deadwood from a tree serves two main functions, improving the aesthetics of the tree and mitigating risk of damage to property and people. Hazardous branches don’t always present themselves in the form of deadwood. Sometimes hazardous branches can be fully leafed out and show no visible signs of structural damage or decay from the ground, which is why every tree we prune receives a thorough inspection and health report provided upon invoicing.
